Building on our mission to introduce the joys of boating to Chicagoland children, the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation will partner with the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation (JGASF) to present Judd’s Sailing Camp, a new program designed to introduce the sport of sailing to children with physical disabilities.

In early December, the CYC Foundation formally announced the largest annual appeal in the Foundation’s history. The Foundation seeks to raise $200,000 to support its important mission of introducing underserved Chicagoland children to the joys and benefits of being on the water.

The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation hosted the first annual “Meet the Kids Night” at Monroe Station on November 29. “Meet the Kids Night” offered CYC members and friends the opportunity to meet nearly 20 youths that participated in CYC Foundation initiatives this year.

Former Commodore Joe Haas was just a kid when he fell in love with boating. Raised in a family of accomplished sailors, the life lessons Joe learned on the water – things like perseverance, independence, and adaptability – have served him well not only in competitive sailing but throughout his life and career.

Last night, Lisa Curcio Gaston was elected to serve as the 71st Commodore of the Chicago Yacht Club and will begin her term on New Year’s Day. Lisa fell in love with the water decades ago when she first started boating on the Chain O’Lakes. By the early 1990s, she was boating on Lake Michigan and joined the Chicago Yacht Club in 1997.

When Bill Bloom joined the Chicago Yacht Club in 2009, it changed his life. A longtime athlete with a competitive spirit growing up, Bill was introduced to the sport of sailing that year and never looked back.

Dear Friends,

Chicago teen Eric Zirkle didn’t know what to expect when he signed up for the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation’s new Maritime Academy this summer. A senior at Rickover Naval Academy in Chicago, Eric just hoped to learn some basic skills he could use to get a job on the water.
