From the Helm

September 20, 2023

Welcome to the September issue of the Beacon! This season has been one for the record books at your Chicago Yacht Club Foundation. Thanks to your support, we have been able to launch five new sailing camps for young people from underrepresented communities. One of those camps is “Judd’s Sailing Camp,” named for longtime CYC member Judd Goldman and run in partnership with the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation. This special camp brings the joys of sailing to children with physical disabilities. Read more about it below! I also know you will enjoy our Donor Spotlight, featuring the Whitford family. The Whitfords have been fixtures at the Club for decades, and we are grateful for their support!

Allow me to offer a special thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Chicago Regatta. Your Foundation received many generous gifts from this special event, and we are already hard at work planning sailing camps for 2024 that will introduce more Chicagoland kids to sailing. I’d like to especially thank this year’s Chicago Regatta co-chairs, Ed Falkenhayn and Eric Oesterle for their hard work this year.

The fall season will feature two special events at your Foundation. Plan to join us on October 12th for our annual Meet the Kids Night, where you’ll meet some of the kids who benefitted from your support this year. And on November 17th, don’t miss our hometown Olympic hopefuls Steph Roble and Maggie Shea, who will headline a fundraiser for the Foundation’s Competition Fund. I hope to see you there!

Thanks for your support. Let’s continue doing big things. Together!
